The French Sèvres Porcelain Centrepiece
This French Sèvres Porcelain centrepiece from 1771 is set in gilt bronze mount 'ormolu'. The bowl itself displays one medallion on turquoise background with a pastoral scene of a couple in nature, the gentleman playing the guitar for the lady. This scene is inspired by the paintings of Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684-1721).
This piece is signed with blue under-glaze Sèvres interlaced L, enclosing the date mark S for the year 1771.
A mark inside the porcelain piece reads “Collection Jordan de Sury, Château Sur le Comtal”, which is an indication of its provenance. Sury-le-Comtal is a commune in the Loire region in central France.
Measure: Height 26 cm, diameter 23 cm.
